Congratulations! I couldn’t be happier.
Good speech, too. Not outstanding, but definitely an improvement. Asking your dad to whistle — and, to our delight, actually hearing him do it — was an especially nice touch. My only regret at that point was that Lauren Bacall wasn’t around for a reaction shot.

The Reader was just so wonderful, I thought and I wonder how it didn’t get the best picture. Best Actress was kind of obvious
shweta>> Some parts of it were definitely an improvement over the previous editions. The idea of getting past winners to present the acting awards was a good one. I wish they had done that for Best Director as well. I especially liked Queen Latifah singing in the background during the obituary section. I hope they continue with that idea in the future as well.
Raj>> I read the script of The Reader — rarely has reading a script made me cry, but this one did. If Kate Winslet brings to Hanna Schmidt even a millionth of what the character is on the printed page, she deserves that statuette she took home last night. I haven’t seen any of the nominees other than Slumdog, so I cannot comment on their Oscar-worthiness. But yes, I wouldn’t have been disappointed if The Reader had won a few more awards.

“..rarely has reading a script made me cry, but this one did” – I’d better stay away from The Reader then, at least until my lachrymal glands have a chance to rebound from being sucked entirely dry by Tom McCarthy’s The Visitor. (I held up pretty good for the most part, but that NY subway scene where Jenkins starts to pound away on the African drum, while everyone else mindlessly goes about their routine…that was the last straw.) Speaking of scripts, Ratatouille is the only one I’ve read so far (oh for crying out loud, I know!).
As an ardent fan of Ms Winslet, I was rather dissapointed with her performance. Didnt see what the other nominees have done, but Kate messed up the older version big time, its just Ms Winslet,34 with some prosthetic crap on her face and hands(i havent seen anybody young playing old as well as Brad Pitt in Benjamin Button or Mohanlal in Paradesi, though pitt’s make up gets more marks).
Its time she takes a break, goes back to basics and starts learning to grow as an actor all over again.
